Streetman is a small incorporated town in Freestone and Navarro counties, Texas, set in the rolling countryside of central Texas about sixty miles southeast of downtown Dallas. It was founded in 1905 as a station on the railroad and named for Judge Sam Streetman, a surveyor connected to the community's early development. For much of its history, Streetman served as a modest agricultural and rail stop, its fortunes tied to the farms and ranches of the surrounding prairie.
The town's identity changed decisively with the creation of Richland Chambers Reservoir, a 44,752-acre impoundment of Chambers and Richland creeks built to supply water to Tarrant County. Its construction reshaped the area, turning a quiet farming and railroad crossroads into a destination for fishing, boating, and lakeside living. Streetman sits near the lake's western shore, where Farm-to-Market Road 416 and the Interstate 45 corridor provide access.
Today Streetman remains small, home to roughly 250 residents, and its rural character is central to its appeal. Most residents own their homes, and properties range from small in-town lots to large acreage and waterfront parcels. Agriculture, ranching, and lake-oriented recreation still color daily life, and the town's modest size keeps it free of the congestion found closer to the metroplex. The Tarrant Regional Water District maintains a presence on FM 416, a reminder of the reservoir's continuing role as a regional water supply.
For homebuyers, Streetman offers a combination that is increasingly uncommon in North Texas: genuine country living and lake access within roughly an hour's drive of Dallas. Fairfield and Corsicana provide schools, shopping, and services nearby, while Interstate 45 links the area directly to the larger Dallas-Fort Worth region to the north and to Huntsville and Houston beyond to the southeast. It is a place defined less by amenities and commerce than by space, water, and a deliberately unhurried way of life.
