Streetman is a small incorporated town in Freestone and Navarro counties, Texas, set in the rolling countryside of central Texas about sixty miles southeast of downtown Dallas. It was founded in 1905 as a station on the railroad and named for Judge Sam Streetman, a surveyor connected to the community's early development. For much of its history, Streetman served as a modest agricultural and rail stop, its fortunes tied to the farms and ranches of the surrounding prairie. The town's identity changed decisively with the creation of Richland Chambers Reservoir, a 44,752-acre impoundment of Chambers and Richland creeks built to supply water to Tarrant County. Its construction reshaped the area, turning a quiet farming and railroad crossroads into a destination for fishing, boating, and lakeside living. Streetman sits near the lake's western shore, where Farm-to-Market Road 416 and the Interstate 45 corridor provide access. Today Streetman remains small, home to roughly 250 residents, and its rural character is central to its appeal.
