Sherman is a city in and the county seat of Grayson County, in far North Texas near the Oklahoma border. It anchors the Sherman-Denison area, a twin-city region along the Red River valley known as Texoma, and sits about 65 miles north of Dallas. The city's location places it at the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while retaining a distinct North Texas identity shaped by ranching, railroads, and, increasingly, advanced manufacturing. Sherman's economy has been transformed by semiconductor manufacturing. Texas Instruments has established a major fabrication campus in the city, representing a multibillion-dollar investment with plans for multiple wafer fabs and several thousand jobs. Alongside established employers such as Cigna, Tyson Foods, and Ruiz Food Products, the TI expansion has positioned Sherman as an emerging technology hub in the region and driven significant population and housing growth. Education is a cornerstone of the community. Austin College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1849, is among the oldest institutions in Texas and anchors the city's academic life. Grayson College provides associate degrees, workforce training, and dual-credit programs, while Sherman ISD serves the city's public school students. The city's historic downtown, centered on Main Street, preserves Sherman's frontier and railroad heritage, while neighborhoods such as Olde Towne showcase historic homes on tree-lined streets. Newer subdivisions have spread outward as the population has grown, and Lake Texoma, one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, lies just to the north for recreation. U.S. 75 and U.S. 82 provide regional connectivity, making Sherman a practical and increasingly dynamic place to live in North Texas.
