Sulphur Springs is a city in Hopkins County, Texas, serving as the county seat in the northeast part of the state. It sits along the Interstate 30 corridor, roughly halfway between Dallas and Texarkana, and functions as the commercial hub for the surrounding county. The city's population is about 16,000. The community takes its name from natural mineral springs that defined its early identity. In the 1870s Sulphur Springs was promoted as a health resort, with more than one hundred natural springs in and around the town drawing visitors seeking their reputed medicinal benefits.
