Pottsboro is a small town in Grayson County, Texas, near the Oklahoma border and the Red River, and part of the Sherman–Denison metropolitan statistical area. Its modern identity is inseparable from Lake Texoma, the large reservoir created when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed Denison Dam, which flooded the Red River valley and transformed the local economy and landscape. Pottsboro's position along the southern shore made it a gateway to the lake, and today it is known for its full-service marinas, wide sandy beaches, and resort amenities, including the Tanglewood Resort golf course and conference center. The town's roots run deeper, though, to a late-nineteenth-century railroad and agricultural settlement whose post office took the Pottsboro name in 1891. Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, a 12,000-acre preserve on the lake's southern shore, draws migratory birds and wildlife watchers, while Eisenhower State Park offers camping, swimming, boating, fishing, and trails on the lake's bluffs.
