Lancaster is a city in southern Dallas County, Texas, located about 12 miles south of downtown Dallas and considered part of the "Best Southwest" cluster of communities alongside DeSoto, Duncanville, and Cedar Hill. With a population of roughly 41,000, it is one of Dallas County's oldest and most historically rooted municipalities. The city was founded in 1852 as a frontier post, and its town square was modeled on Lancaster, Pennsylvania — giving the Texas city one of the oldest town squares in Dallas County.
