Denton County Railroad Town
Welcome to Justin, a small Denton County city between Fort Worth and Denton, named for a Santa Fe Railway engineer and served by Northwest ISD.
Justin is a city in Denton County, Texas, in the northwestern portion of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, situated between Fort Worth and Denton. Founded as a stop on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, the community petitioned for a post office in January 1887 and took the name Justin in honor of W. J. Sherman, the railroad's chief construction engineer—not, as is commonly assumed, the Justin Boot Company. With a population of about 4,400 in the 2020 census, Justin remains one of the smaller municipalities in a county that has grown rapidly as the DFW region has expanded northward. The city's location places it directly in the path of some of North Texas's most significant recent development. Justin sits near the AllianceTexas corridor, a 26,000-acre master-planned development anchored by Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport, BNSF intermodal rail, and Interstate 35W, which has made the surrounding area one of the fastest-growing industrial and logistics zones in the metroplex. Texas Motor Speedway, the region's major racing venue, lies just to the west, and State Highway 114 and Farm-to-Market Road 156 provide the city's principal road connections. Despite that growth, Justin retains a small-town, semi-rural character associated with Denton County's horse country, with surrounding acreage and equestrian properties distinguishing it from denser suburban neighbors. Public schools are part of Northwest Independent School District, one of the larger and faster-growing districts in the region, which operates Justin Elementary within the city and Northwest High School nearby. Justin appeals to households seeking a small-town base with direct access to the jobs, logistics, and amenities of the Alliance corridor and the wider Fort Worth area, while still being able to keep acreage, horses, and a quieter pace of life.
