Jewett is a city in Leon County, Texas, in the rural east-central part of the state. The 2020 census counted 793 residents. The town was laid out in 1871 by the International Railroad Company and grew as a railroad junction, historically served by three lines until the Houston and Texas Central was abandoned in 1933. During its railroad heyday, Jewett served as a transfer point where passengers changed trains, and several motels and businesses catered to travelers; by 1914 the community supported seven general stores and other merchants.
