Highland Village is a city in southern Denton County, Texas, within the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It sits along the south shore of the western branch of Lewisville Lake, a large Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, roughly thirty miles north of Dallas and twenty-five miles from Fort Worth. The community began as a scattering of lakeside homes. In February 1963, roughly one hundred residents who had decided to make their lakeside houses permanent incorporated the town, giving Highland Village its start as a small, water-oriented community. Since then it has grown into a well-established suburb while retaining its emphasis on the lake and the outdoors. Today Highland Village is known as an affluent, family-oriented suburb with a strong parks and recreation program. The Robert and Lee DuVall Center serves as the hub of its parks department, and the city maintains a network of neighborhood parks and trails that, together with Lewisville Lake, define daily life. Its location places residents minutes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and within reach of the I-35E and I-35W corridors, making it a practical base for commuters across the metroplex. The city's population of roughly 16,000 is spread across a relatively small, deliberately residential footprint, with lake views and tree-lined streets setting the tone across much of the community. Highland Village has maintained a low-density, family-oriented character even as the surrounding metroplex has grown around it. The city is served entirely by Lewisville Independent School District, with most addresses feeding into Marcus High School. Highland Village's combination of lake access, well-regarded schools, and proximity to DFW employment centers gives it a distinct niche among Denton County's suburbs, appealing to families and professionals seeking a lakeside lifestyle within the larger region.
