Cresson is a city in Texas located at the corners of three counties — Hood, Johnson, and Parker — making it a distinctly positioned small community at the intersection of U.S. Highway 377 and State Highway 171, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth. U.S. 377 runs northeast to Fort Worth and southwest roughly 12 miles to Granbury, the Hood County seat, while State Highway 171 extends northwest toward Weatherford and beyond. The town's origins reach back to the late 19th century, when the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway was built through the area in 1887 on its way to Granbury, anchoring Cresson as a small rail and agricultural settlement. For most of its history, Cresson remained a tiny, unincorporated community, recording a population of only about 200 as recently as 1990 and 2000. That changed with the growth of the Fort Worth region. Cresson incorporated in 2001, and its population climbed from 741 in 2010 to about 1,349 by the 2020 census — a reflection of the area's expansion as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex pushed southwest along the U.S. 377 corridor. The city's three-county location gives it a distinctive civic identity, with city limits extending into Hood, Johnson, and Parker counties. Cresson is served by the Granbury Independent School District; the town's own school consolidated with Granbury schools in 1967, and students now attend Granbury ISD campuses. That connection to Granbury extends beyond education — the county seat's historic downtown square and Lake Granbury, a Brazos River reservoir, provide the nearest shopping, dining, and recreation. For residents, Cresson offers a small-town, semi-rural home base at a highway crossroads, with direct access to Fort Worth for employment and urban amenities and to the Granbury and Lake Granbury area for leisure. Its recent growth has added new housing and a family-oriented character while preserving the open, countryside feel of its location where three counties meet.
