Cleveland is a small city in Liberty County, Texas, set within the Greater Houston metropolitan area on the U.S. 59/Interstate 69 corridor northeast of Houston. The community traces its origins to 1878, when Judge Charles Lander Cleveland deeded 63.6 acres to the Houston, East and West Texas Railway with the request that a station bear his name. Timber and lumber defined its early economy, and Cleveland remains a shipping point and regional hub for the surrounding Piney Woods countryside. The city was formally incorporated in 1935.
