Bluff Dale is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place in northeastern Erath County, Texas, situated on U.S. Route 377 and the North Paluxy River. Settlers from Ellijay, Georgia, and other parts of the southern United States founded the community in the late 1860s, drawn by artesian springs that gave the place its original name, Bluff Spring. The 2020 census counted 151 residents. Bluff Dale developed as a small farming and trading settlement along the route between Stephenville and Granbury, and its identity remains tied to the Paluxy River valley and the surrounding Cross Timbers countryside. Ranching and hay production remain visible parts of the local economy, and the town's compact crossroads core reflects its origins as a waypoint on the old highway. The region sits within a transition of open ranchland broken by oak and juniper, with limestone ledges and river bottomland shaping the terrain. A handful of local businesses, the post office, and the school serve the dispersed rural population, and the crossroads functions as a gathering point for the surrounding ranch country. The combination of river bottomland, rolling hills, and open sky gives the community a distinctly rural Cross Timbers feel. The community is served by the Bluff Dale Independent School District, a small rural district that anchors local life. Today Bluff Dale is known for a low-key, community-minded atmosphere, with live music, local gatherings, and star-filled night skies drawing visitors. Its position between Stephenville, the self-proclaimed Cowboy Capital of the World, and Glen Rose places it within reach of Dinosaur Valley State Park, where preserved dinosaur tracks line the Paluxy, and the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. The surrounding landscape of rolling hills, limestone ledges, and river bottomland defines the area's rural character.
